Battalion Park

One fine morning in May I decided to do some stair hiking. The West Coast Trail features approximately 70 ladders, 130 bridges and 4 cable cars. (according to http://herpackinglist.com/2015/02/packing-list-west-coast-trail/). I'll be sure to verify this after my hike in July. 70 ladders is a formidable amount of ladders. When I go to the gym I do the ladder machine, but on such a beautiful May morning I couldn't stomach the gym so I drove to Battalion Park in southwest Calgary to exercise my quadratus femoris/ (femori?). There are certainly a lot of stairs. I actually counted them. However, I deleted my calculation from my phone and remembered post-deletion that those numbers were the stairs I counted😑. So trust me, there are stairs.
I went expecting stairs and got so much more. It was like a museum on a hill. As you climb you are able to read about the history of Battalion Park (while you surreptitiously catch your breath). It was a fun little 2 km hike.
City of Calgary says this about Battalion Park:

"Battalion Park, originally known as Camp Sarcee in 1915, opened on November 3, 1991 and was built to commemorate World War 1. Members of the Calgary, Lethbridge, Central Alberta, and Edmonton battalions hauled 16,000 stones in sacks onto the hill.
The original stones were used to form the numbers 137, 113, 151, and 51 which represent the regiment numbers of the above battalions. Members of the 137 Battalion fought for years to maintain the rocks and have them declared a historic site. The stones were carefully stored and saved by Stewart Green Properties Ltd. "
