When my brother Dereck heard about my foot issues, he said he has the same problem. He
recommended the Hoka One One. They have extra cushioning. He has ran marathons in them. Upon researching them, I found that they don’t sell the trail boot in Calgary. I also found that they are about the ugliest shoe I have ever seen. Bright colourful cartoon high-heeled shoes. But I can sacrifice fashion for comfort. I found a store that sells the runners and I tried on a pair. Comfy for sure. And pricy. But Ed was prepared to pay whatever it took to get me shoes that didn’t hurt my feet. The store couldn’t order them in so I called Montana. On my third store I located a pair but not in my size. Luckily their sister store had my size. As an afterthought I asked how much they cost since they retail around $300.00. The lady said, $69.00 on clearance. “I’m sorry, did you mean 169.00?” “No, $69.00. It was a start-the-car moment. What a steal! This was on Saturday. Tuesday they still hadn’t arrived in Babb. How long can it possibley take to go from Kalispell to Babb? I called and they said they didn’t send them because the UPS guy didn’t think the Babb address was legit. I assured her it was and she decided to overnight them USPS. Thursday I called Babb and they were there. I hopped in my car and went on a road trip. The border guard asked me what I was going down for. I told him I was picking up a pair of shoes. He wanted to know what kind of shoes I couldn’t get in Canada. When I told him they were Hoka One One he said, “Oh, from Hawaii?” Ha ha. When I came through the Canadian side, they asked me how long I was across the line. I told them 20 minutes. And what did I do in that 20 minutes? I told her I bought a pair of shoes. She asked me how much? I was sure I would have to pay GST and Duty, but I told her 69.00 USD and she said “Have a nice day.” I couldn’t wait to open them and try them on.
They are pink. Very, very pink.
And very cartoon-y looking.
But comfy and light. Very light.
I wore them all day.
And at the end of the day, my feet hurt.
I don’t think it’s the shoes.
I think it’s me.
Except my feet only hurt in hiking shoes. Not in birks, flip flops, heels, nike frees, or sport sandals or barefeet. Just in any one of the 3 pair of hiking boots I currently own.
